Water tanks are getting installed right across Australia. The drought has changed the way we now have to think about water. What needs to be taken into account is what happens to the water when it sits in the tank. If it is not getting replenished regularly then bacteria and water borne diseases could develop. To prevent this the tank needs to be cleaned regularly to remove silt and mud deposits that build up in the base. This can be done quickly and effectively with the Vacteck fastpump 357. It will fill a 60 litre steel drum with water in under 30 seconds. So removing the sludge is a very easy task. All that's needed is a small compressor from a hire shop, an old 60 litre or 205 litre steel drum and a Fastpump 357 kit which includes hose, wand set and camlocks to attach the pump and hose to the steel drum.

The Wheelie Air Vac is another way to clean out your water tank. Vacteck can configure a WAV with an internal water powered venturi that pumps the water back into the tank. So the compressed air vacuum sucks the water out, it is filtered inside the WAV tank then pumped back into the water tank. This system is called a Fluid Power Drain. Quality of Water in Tanks
Rain water when it falls onto a roof is generally soft, clear and has virtually no micro-organisms and chemicals contaminating it. Microbiological contamination starts as the water interacts with the roof, the drain pipe, leaves, bird droppings on the roof and the sediment and other collected water already in the tank. With Australia's hot and dry climate, this process is accelerated. A way to maintain the health of your rain water tank is to regularly clean it. This may seem like an impossible task for a sealed tank with one filler hole at the top and a small emptying valve at the bottom. Is it possible to get all the sludge, slime and bacteria out of the tank to keep it bacteria and parasite free. The short answer is yes. With adequate cleaning. The easiest way is to use a Vacteck Fastpump 357 fluid recovery system. The nasties that can invade your tank include many types of bacteria, viruses and protozoa. While it is impossible to stop the party that mice, possums, rats, birds, lizards and many other small animals have on your roof every night, it is possibe to keep your rain water tank clean. All it takes is small effort every few weeks. Just like your swimming pool that needs some help to keep clean, don't forget about the rain water tank.
